can we get a free credit score with out having to use a credit card.? 100% free annual credit report. and where do I start to look for the site? Thanks . Any help would be nice . Have a great day

I think you have to first get your report, then use the number code on it in your letter to refer to your report so they make money that you ordered the report first before considering your dispute, but it says I already got my free annual report (which I didn't) and now have to pay for one. I know for 100% certainty of a particular debt that has been reported to the credit bureaus based on a letter from the creditor. Can I just write to them to request they remove it without purchasing their report first?Deborah - it would help if you provided which website you were able to accomplish it at otherwise what's the point telling me about it.

Hey, So in November 2008 I took out a 14 day trial of Orange Mobile Broadband (the USB Dongle) through Phones 4 U. I found, over the first 7 days, that I wasnt getting a very good reception. I took it back and got a replacement. This one got low reception too. I cancelled the trial on the last day. End of story, right? Well it should have been. However Orange apparently didnt receive the cancellation, and continued billing me. After the first bill I went into the Phones 4 U store and told them what had happened. They looked it up on their system - there it was, clear as day, cancellation date of 2nd December. I seem to remember they told Orange at this point, and said not to worry about it. So one reminder to pay this bill (threatening to disconnect and affect my credit rating) and one bill later (now owing > £38) I went back and complained again. Pretty much same thing happened. Eventually, one more reminder / threatening letter and bill later, I paid the bill and got paid back for it by Orange. End of story, or so I thought... A week ago I tried to apply for a credit card. It was turned down due to my credit report. I looked up my credit report and guess what? Orange had affected my credit report despite it not being my fault. I complained to Orange by email straight away and got a reply yesterday. I was told to write a letter to Experian (with a £2.50 cheque - yes Orange are telling me to pay to correct THEIR mistake!! What an insult!!). I signed up to Experian and in the FAQs I noticed it said to ask the organisation involved to correct data if its wrong. I wrote a stroppy reply back to Orange saying that I had been advised completely the opposite of what I should have done and threatened to go to OfCom if this is not fixed immediately. I got a reply back within about 15 minutes saying to write to Orange Credit Referral Debt with a copy of the "file" (assuming they mean a printout of the credit report). I really strongly feel that I should ask for compensation for the amount of stress they have caused over the past 22 months (thats right - a 14 day FREE trial is still affecting me 22 months on!!). My parents both feel different about it - they think I should just regard it as a lesson, get all the damage undone and move on. What do other people think? Should I ask Orange for some kind of compensation (like 10 months free on my £10 per month phone contract that I still have with them, or £100 cash or something), take them to court for damages to my reputation or just leave it and move on? Are there any Orange employees on here that could tell me what they may be able to offer in compensation? Please bear in mind that, if I hadnt tried to apply for a credit card, I couldve been refused for a mortgage, graduate overdraft, loan or any other finance I may need in the first few years of my working life. This could have affected me drastically, and still could if they dont pull themselves together and get something done about this soon... Many thanks in advance. Regards, Richard PS if anyone can think of a better category for this then please change it if you can...Up until February, since September 2006, I was on at least £30 a month contract. I tried to leave in Feb and they gave me an awesome contract for the same deal at £10 a month (£25 less than I was paying at the time). I doubt I'll get offered the same deal any time soon so I took it without even thinking about it. In the scheme of things, bearing in mind that on > £30 a month they have made > £1230 out of me, I think they owe me something as a loyal customer... I called customer services this morning - the woman first said to go to Phones 4 U, to which I marginly raised my voice and said it was Oranges fault, and Phones 4 U have had nothing to do with it since they paid off my bill. She said to go to Experian and pay £2.50 (that insulted me and is wrong anyway - I said so, but not too loudly). She then said to contact the referrals email address with my credit report. I did this and asked for a bit of compensation then. Finally getting somewhere. Will post any more updates on here.Helen - thanks for the advice but, thankfully, my situation is not THAT desperate. I have parents and brothers I can fall back on if I absolutely have to. Its more the principle that I want the compensation for - the fact that the situation could have been a lot worse, had I decided not to apply for that credit card after all (I was sat on the fence about it when I suddenly decided to press Submit!). I have enough to get by, but with that mark on my record I may not be able to get a place to live or get enough money to survive the first couple of months in my first job if it doesnt get fixed soon. Anyway someone from Experian is on the case too - we are both pestering Orange to do something about it. Hopefully get it sorted out this afternoon or by the end of the week at least. RichardThanks for the information Charterman - very very useful. I will use this as a large resort. In fact if they either dont fix it or they do fix it but dont give me any compensation I will drop him an email requesting compensation (maybe threaten to go to Ofcom or the Daily Mail unless I receive compensation for the stress caused and damages to my reputation - but that does sound a bit like blackmail, doesnt it?). I will give them until Tuesday (i.e. 5 working days after my last email) to put this right. I have an exam (my final one!!) on Tuesday so it kinda makes sense leaving it till then. Will post back here to let people know how I am doing.Ok, so I was revising for my exam but getting increasingly frustrated by this situation. So I have sent Tom Alexander an email explaining the situation and finishing it with something about having a contact in the Daily Mail who I may use if I am not satisfied by the outcome of the situation. I have also said that I WILL be leaving in that case - and nothing anyone can say or offer me at the time of leaving will change my mind. Just gotta hope he gets back to me soon. I have marked it as High priority and requested a read receipt. RichardWell I just had an interesting phone call - from Sam from Orange Executive Office. I wonder if they all have 3 letter names.. He was just checking on how things were going. I had an email this morning from Referrals saying that they had removed all details of that account from my credit record but, due to the nature of the problem and their t's and c's, they could not compensate me anything. I apologised in case I had come across as stroppy at all and explained that I am about to sit my final exam and I have been ill recently, so I have good reason to be stressed out. Sam gave me a phone number to go straight through to his desk should I have any more problems with this case. He said he completely understands if I am angry about the situation and that it shouldnt have happened, but that Phones 4 U are at fault. They refunded me £40 to go towards the phone calls I have had to make as a result of this, for being a loyal customer. Thanks all for the advice. Regards, Richard

I signed up when i was 19, I am currently 28. When I signed up I told teh guy that I might be moving to New York and could I cancel if there was not a facility near me. Sure , he says. You can get out of the contract as long as there is not an All American within a certain mile radius from you. (i think it was like 50 miles or something). So when I moved I notified him and he said that he was cancelling my membership and that it was all taken care of. 10+ years later i signed up for a free trial membership at All American, and they have been sending me very harasing letters since. I called the number and told the lady what happened and she said that basically I was lying. And the best she could do was let me cancel for $100, but I had to get proof of my stay in new york and the time i was there and what not. I told her this would take a little bit of time. One week later (today) I get a letter saying they are taking me to court and they are going to try to garnish my wages. Is that even possible or just a scare tactic? I mean this contract is so old it's not even on my credit report anymore. btw, i live in OK and that's where the original contract was signed, if that helps. thanx. ps (((((((((((((sorry for all the typos and misspellings I'm trying to type with a cat hovering over the keyboard)))))))))))

100% free annual credit report, where do I start to look for the site? Thanks . Any help would be nice . Have a great day

Hi. Is my credit a lot worse now? When I was only 20, I already had close to $50,000 total credit limit from only three credit cards combined and was already a platinum card holder. Today, I am 33 and have only about $9,000 total credit limit from around five credit cards. The last time I tried to open a credit card, I was given only $500 limit. I am not carrying any balances on my credit cards at the moment. I pay them off at the end of every month and really just use my Amazon rewards card now. Part of what happened is I didn't use some cards and they closed with their high credit limits. Others got their credit limit lowered within the last couple years when I reported cards lost/stolen and got replacements. I've paid all my credit card payments on time for the most part, except maybe one late payment once or twice a year that was quickly paid a week after the due date. I did have lates on my student loan payments, especially when I was mentally ill, but I think everything got taken care of possibly and now all the student loans are going to be written off due to permanent disability. My question is has my credit really gotten so much worse? Or is it the economy also? Is that why I was approved for only $500 for the last credit card I opened? I opened it hoping to transfer $4,000 through a balance transfer. Luckily, I got a personal loan instead since the limit was only approved for $500. My second question is I have five credit cards now (that I know of), should I try to open another one? Four bank ones and one store credit card. My other credit cards closed due to inactivity. I called and checked. I have an offer for Discover. I used to have one of their cards a long time ago before I closed it over 10 years ago. If I get accepted and spend $799 in 3 months, they will give me $100 cash free. There is no annual fee. How will this affect my credit? In the long term 'cause I know it will lower my credit score in the short term? Please let me know. My third question is I recently got an American Express offer for a credit card in the mail. I shredded it, but does that mean my credit is good enough that I got an American Express offer? Or does everyone get them? The last time I checked, my credit score was 750. That's just average, right? I am waiting for my student loans to be written off before I check my credit report and score again. Thanks!Whoops! I forgot a credit card and underestimated my total credit limit. It is $18,400 totaled from four credit cards and two store credit cards.

I will then copy it into the game section and when I sign out of your account, It will be on mine. Hi, my wife and i have 2 houses,we live in 1 and the other is rented out, we only bought the second house of £80k 2 yrs ago to help out family as they were homeless, and the rent is quite high and all im asking is only to pay the mortgage payments of £520 monthly...so i cant ask for more rent. Our house is mortgaged £100,000 and we pay £770 per month just the mortgage,so payments are quite high for us...so we cant re mortgage. We have loans and 3 credit cards, we have not missed 1 single payment, but the 3 credit cards we maxed to get married last year, so on the 3 we owe £3k each, my worries are that next month the cards have come to the end of their interest free time, and this is the second time i have ordered new cards to start again on interest free ....i had a thought and worked out if i could get a loan i could pay them all off in 4 years time...which sounded great....BUT no 1 will give me a loan....the payments would be the same what we are paying now...and like i said we have not missed any payments as their done via direct debit. I have checked our credit report and even tho its looking ok no 1 will touch us cos i have tried 3 times to get a loan, which then looks bad..!!! So we are totally stuck...... As of next month the interest will kick in on my 3 cards and its gonna spiral out of control, and i will not be able to afford the payments,,,,,,which is why i have tried to sort this out now...... ANY GOOD ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE ON WHAT WE CAN DO TO STOP IT SPIRALLING OUT OF CONTROL....????.Many thanks for all who have replied to me...is there no one in the uk who has any advice on how to help me out.....a debt management im thinking is not a good idea as they take a fee every month out of what your trying to pay your debts off with, which then is making it that your then paying off more than you were, but on a much longer scale..!!!And im VERY wary of applying for a loan out of my country..!!

I got my first credit card last year in july. It's been a whole year since i had it and i only charge 100-200/month on gas and food. I pay the balance in full each month and never been late. What should my credit score be around? People tell me to check annualcreditreport.com but if someone can give me an estimate on here, it'll be better and i can save that free credit report for later when i need it.

I've never trusted the internet to get a free credit report online. Even though the site might be secured, I'm not 100% that my computer is free of virus, or other complications. I just don't trust it enough to be entering my personal data there, so is there anyway I can obtain my credit report in person? if so, where? Thank you.

I have only encountered sites such as creditreport.com that force you to give them a credit card # to complete the report. Then you are automatically enrolled in some garbage. If you don't cancel within 30 days, you'll be charged outrageous amounts monthly. Does anyone know a way to get a 100% free & simple credit report? Without having to sign my life away?

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question relating to when it is allowable for a company to debit my account. I signed up to a Credit Score website, hoping to benefit from their 'free trial' of 10 days. What I didn't realise, was that it stipulated in my membership email that I would be automatically charged for the use of the service unless I cancelled my membership. I provided my card details solely for the purpose of receiving my credit report, I did not submit any direct debit application, and I did not confirm receipt or any form of acknowledgment of them email i received. Their terms and conditions do not appear to mention the payment. My knowledge of contract law is sketchy, but I thought any sort of contract had to involve a price offer and an acceptance- in this instance I accepted nothing and the only contact I had with the company was a complaint email about the service itself which they did not reply to. Is there any way I can legally claim back the money that's been taken? It's in excess of £100 and I really can't afford that.

Today i tried to get a tmobile contract phone, £20 per month for 18month and was credit rejected by experian and i dont know why. ive never taken out credit in my life, never been in debt for anything either. every month i clear 100% of my credit card bill on time. ive lived where i live now for over 3yrs ive had a bank account since i was a child and have never been over drawn once by so much as a penny and i have a reasonably healthy bank balance. i dont work due to health reasons and i live in rented accomodation paid for by HB but i was not asked any income related questions in the last 3 yrs my credit card has been defrauded twice but i was told this would not have any baring on my rating and also someone tried to take out credit with littlewoods in my name fraudulently and again i was told at the time that this wouldnt affect my rating ive signed up for free credit report on credit expert but thats gonna take 48hrs and i want to know now, im really really angry about it can anyone help me? and what can i possibly do to improve my rating when i dont owe anything to anyone? thanks
