Is this health reform or is it a nanny state take over???
My employer totally dropped health insurance coverage after 1Q 2010. Since they completely terminated the plan, Cobra wasn't an option. Due to health issues, I had to signup with the state's health insurance pool which is fine, and my premium is $458/month (will be paid from 2Q 2010 through end of year 2010). By the way, under my employer's plan my health premiums were deducted pretax through a cafeteria plan. 99.9% of my income is from W-2 wages but I receive a couple of hundred dollars a year (1099 income) in insurance renewals which I report on my taxes. Is there anyway I can deduct my health insurance premiums under the self employement deduction instead of 7.5% of AGI? Or do I need more 1099 income to justify that? Chances are even with my health premiums, other medical expenses, etc, I may not get over the standard deduction amount.Insurance renewals meaning residual income from previous sales of insurance products. Am fully licensed agent and still licensed but don't write new business any longer but required to maintain licenses because of job.I didn't think it was possible, but just thought I would ask the question for feedback since I'm not the expert on taxes.
I am taking a 1099 contractor job in CA and I live in WI. I will be responsible for all my expenses as part of the deal and taxes. I will be driving out and flying back and fourth on the weekends home and doing admin work from him.
Since I have never had to deal with paying my own taxes like state, federal, SS, Fica, etc, what percentage of my hourly rate should I withhold each week to put aside for taxes?rate is $110/hr 1099. I want to know how much to takeout each week to set aside before deductions as I will be doing this all at the end of the year. Someone said 20 or 25 percent, but I am not sure. I need advice from a tax or CPA expert.I have been unemployed since June 2009 and on unemployment each week ata $388/wk. I file jointly with my wife and have three small children. I will be in CA and flying back and fourth every week. This is supposed to go perm so this 1099 may only be temporarly for 4 months. Hope this helps! My goal is to budget out a rough about of money to put aside for all my taxes and the end of the year and then do the deductions and keep the rest if you get what I mean. So, if I make 110/hr x 40hrs + 4400wk. Thinking of how much of that to squirrel away. Again, how this added info helps. You gys are great on here!
I have been working on 1099 for the first time since June. I would like to pay estimated tax for the month of June & July? How do I calculate it? I have family with 2 kids. What would be the approximate tax % I would owe to IRS? I am working out of my state. I have been staying in a hotel. Can I add hotel, food, car gas, groceries, my car towing charge from TX to NJ as expense? Thanks.
I freelance quite a bit for a single client, and he stated that once he pays me over $600 He's going to issue me a 1066 or 1099 (I forget). What is it and what do I do with it? Also, when it comes tax time. What do I do then?
if I have a tax identification number , can I provide it for use for my independent 1099 contractor job ..? because I don't have social security , I have lot of potential in the states, I don't have money and I need something to do ... I can work as contractant ... would it be considered illegal if I pay my tax normally ?
Hello,
1. I provide consulting services to a US-based company.
2. I am neither a US citizen, nor am I substantially present in the US. I do all the work from abroad.
3. My US client pays me for the services – in one cumulative installment, annually.
Questions:
What forms do I need to file with the IRS to tell it of my status.
What forms does my US-based client need to file with the IRS to clarify our business relationship?
The problem is that the IRS is trying to collect taxes from me on assumption that I am present in the states and work as an independent contractor. This maybe due to the fact that my US client issued Form 1099 in my name - erroneously. I was notified of a pending levy sent to my bank account.
How do I and my US client remedy this situation? Thank you.
Hi, I need help with the nanny tax. We're in Nebraska. This is for a part-time nanny who works 3 days a week and does not live in our home. She gets $270 per week, no benefits.
We've looked at the IRS site and even went to talk to them in person at the IRS office, but we think they gave us the wrong information. The IRS agent told us that we could just treat our nanny/babysitter as an independent contractor and give her a 1099 listing her wages and she'd do the taxes herself. But the 1099 info says that only works if she were to set her own hours, bring her own things, etc. and that's not the case.
Can anyone tell me what to do?
Was the IRS agent right or wrong about the 1099 stuff?
We applied for an EIN. Are we going to need it?
If we deduct her Social Security taxes and her Medicaid, do we have to pay more out of our own pockets?
Do we have to pay unemployment insurance?
Do we have to do anything for the State of Nebraska?
PLEASE, PLEASE help. We want to get this settled. There are website that say they'll calculate this for you, but they want to charge huge amounts of money and this is already costing more then we had planned. That website doesn't come up in a Google/Yahoo search except for being posted on Y/A and other forumns.Nevermind. I guess Y/A or a member caught it and deleted it.
This is a rough draft of a contract arrangement defining the relationship between my business and independent contractors that i sub work out to. please read and help comment on it so that i can improve it. (and for you sticklers on Yahoos TOS my question is "what do you think about this document?")

One last thing, is there another form I should have them sign stating that they are a subcontractor on the job and will be responsible for there own workers compensation insurance. If so please gone me the ne or form number of it and link to it.
I received a "Return of Premium" from a long term care insurance policy a few years ago. I did not report it on my taxes and now the IRS sent a letter claiming the money is taxable. The IRS just has the 1099 the insurance company sent but doesn't really know yet what the payments were for. (The insurance company sent the 1099 and the check to a wrong address so I actually didn't receive the money for another year but that is another issue).
I was always told the "return of premium" is not taxable and all the insurance websites still claim that. However, I cannot find anything an IRS code or provision stating this. Does anyone know of such an "official" source?
No - I never deducted the premium payments in prior years. Any help you can provide is appreciated.
So my husband is out of work and he signed up with this thing on the internet that finds you jobs or soemthing.. anyways. One job contacted him with A HUGE email.. this was it.
Dear Applicant,
Your application for the Virtual Administrative Assistant position has been received Sorry for the late response.
My name is Shawn Harrison from Cara Operation Inc. that creates a medium that links suppliers and buyers. I source for buyers and suppliers within and outside United States at the same time so I can link them to make profits. On every transaction made through my administration's linking, I have a 20% profit. I am constantly on the move organizing Seminars to bring buyers and suppliers together and that is why a virtual administrative assistant is needed to complete billings, invoicing and transactions to make this medium effective.
This position offers you 10% of processed transactions as they are steady and continuous with an average transaction amount of $3,000.00. You can handle as many as 3 transactions in a week as most payment are made install-mentally. The pay is great enough to encourage you to work hard and efficiently while it's more than enough for me to stay in business. I travel a lot and when a buyer wants to make a purchase, he\she has to hold-on till I return, to place an order. This create a long term effect on customers and they start sourcing for suppliers on their own
The best form of payment used are Business checks and direct bank transfers as they are guaranteed funds and are confirmed and readily available on the spot. They are not the only means used but they are the best for this process. Most of the buyers I work with are those I have previously handled successful transactions with, new buyers are verified and confirmed before the linking process occurs.
The mode of operation goes thus; You will be receiving transaction payments from verified buyers which will be mailed via secured courier service, You will have this payment processed and have the processed payment transferred to the suppliers/vendors or directly to the company.
Your pay is 10% of the amount received from the buyer and all charges during processing will be deducted from the 90% balance This makes your pay a fixed 10% of the total amount processed. You can handle as much as 3 or more transactions per week and on 3 transactions you're sure of earning nothing less than $600.00 weekly.
The working hours are flexible as all you will be doing is processing of transaction payments and completing the transaction to the suppliers. You will be required to check your e-mail regularly for transaction updates. Working with me will also not disturb your other jobs, (If you have any) as I require that applicant only have easy access to the net to be easily reachable and respond/carry out instructions sent to them efficiently.

my husband is "self-employed" which means he gets 1099 forms instead of w-2's. he is also a big loser and owed the IRS some backtaxes (not a crazy amount, maybe $1000) PRIOR to us getting married in 2007. He had his shady underground "accountant" prepare his tax forms for that year last minute and when i saw how fraudulent they were, i decided it was better for him not to file than file false-ly. then he got hurt, was out of work and i supported his disabled ass (but not technically "disabled" collecting money, since he was always "off the books" work-wise). he made about 27k total, which is hardly anything, and i'm sure could have written off a lot of stuff, but has NO RECIEPTS and i refuse to claim any deductions where i could get in even more trouble if there will be an audit (and 3 years later, i'm sure the odds are good). his liability for that year is about 6k fed and 2k state...
he just got a "failure to file notice" for 2007. he didn't work 2008 or 2009 and just started work again in 2010. i have filed "married, filing separate" all those years, thinking i was covering my own butt and not getting involved in his tax mess, but i just learned since we are married and live together, i'm involved anyway. so i'm not in the process of "amending" my taxes for 2007-2009 to include him on a joint return. i will "get back" extra for '08 &'09, but still owe for 2007 when he didn't file. i have drawn up the federal amendments and ready to send them in, fairly confidently. but since he technically got a "failure to file" from Massachusetts state 2007, can i simply "amend"? anyone know how this works? we can't afford an accountant. i went to H&R block for a brief "consultation" to figure out the plan of action, but as we will end up owing close to 10k, i need to save the $500 bucks for our first payment!!!
any help is appreciated. and yes, i realize that we are stupid and irresponsible and bla bla bla. that's obvious, you don't need to rub it in. trying to make things right here and not move to mexico.hmmm, idk. h&r block office told me I'm technically liable as well and eventually they could come and garnish my wages, (which is what i am trying desperately to avoid since i have a son and may or not end up with said loser in the long run...
